KURUKSHETRA: Under the “Freedom from Drugs” initiative to address the threat of drug abuse, Kurukshetra police officers uprooted wild cannabis plants in different parts of the city on Sunday.
Following instructions from Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police (SP) Anshu Singla, CIA-I, CIA-II, anti-narcotics cell teams, Krishna Gate SHO, head of the Subhash Mandi police station run by the headquarters of the DSP Subhash Chander, combed Shorgir Basti area, Indira Colony in Thanesar city. Police conducted house-to-house inspections in suspicious areas and searched properties from water tanks to beds and kitchens in residents’ homes.
Kurukshetra police spokesman Naresh Kumar said the Shorgir Basti colony, Indira, in the city of Thanesar, is known for drug trafficking and even women in the locality smuggled the drug.
“Police have recovered large quantities of narcotics from Shorgir Basti men and women and a search operation was carried out on Sunday,” Naresh said.
He added that during the search operation, police recovered 1.20 kg of bargain (dry cannabis) from a woman accused of Shorgir Basti, as well as 36 illicit bottles of beer, IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor). ) and country liquor.
He said cases are being filed against accused persons under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
