Gov. Kathy Hochul today announced the inaugural members of the New York Cannabis Advisory Board, a 13-member panel that will advise state marijuana regulators and oversee a fund to help communities affected by the war on drugs.
NY Cannabis Insider has previously covered delays in board appointments and internal criticism of the slow deployment of the state-mandated committee. Hochul’s announcement on Wednesday is the first publicly available information on the advisory board.
Cannabis Control Board Chair Tremaine Wright said Wednesday that “These members of the Cannabis Advisory Board have unique and valuable work and life experiences that will ensure that all New Yorkers have a say in how the cannabis market is regulated. New York and how tax revenue is shared with the community, nonprofits.
The governor appointed seven members to the board. New York Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie nominated three, as did New York Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins.
